SaaS is ascendent…

October 19th, 2007 by admin

Adobe stated at the web 2.0 summit hat it figures that within 10 years all of its products will be delivered via the web (ie SaaS as I define it - in the clouds).

Bob discussed the practicalities - bandwidth, compression requirements etc etc - and pretty much said that 10 years should see it achieved no sweat. He also pointed out that the bigger challenge than the technical ones are the business model paradigm shifts (ie execution is key). I agree and the announcement at the summit is one of the first steps in changing that very business paradigm.

Facebook and censorship…

October 19th, 2007 by admin

I just got an email from Facebook that said;

Hello,

You have been sending harassing messages to other users. This is a violation of Facebook’s Terms of Use. Among other things, messages that are hateful, threatening, or obscene are not allowed. Continued misuse of Facebook’s features could result in your account being disabled. If you have any questions or concerns, you can visit our FAQ page at http://www.facebook.com/help.php?page=35.

The Facebook Team

WTF? Please visit my Facebook profile and correct me if I'm wrong in asserting it as the tamest personal profile in existence. Is it spam, some unusual phishing attack or Facebook getting a little sideways on us?

Who knows?

Cartão Único / Cartão de Cidadão

October 19th, 2007 by admin

October 19th, 2007 by admin

someone else…

October 19th, 2007 by admin

one of the best things about startups is just the amount you learn. you're suddenly out of the "someone else does that" mindset that you (well, I) get into in bigger organisations. Someone else looks after the server. Someone else looks after sales. Someone else...

In a startup, you're that person, or at least pretty close to being that person. If something is not working, your product isnt world famous, the only person (people) who are going to do anything to change it is you (and your startup buddies).

Its kind of intimidating, but... its great. No hiding, its all on your shoulders!

Entzauberung Teil 2 - AJAX

October 19th, 2007 by admin

AJAX

Marketing 3.0

October 19th, 2007 by admin

We hear alot of things today relating to Web 2.0, Enterprise 2.0 or even Web 3.0. I think its time that marketers wake up and realize that we don't have a choice in marketing anymore to want to relate to New Media or Web 2.0 technologies etc.....

Its a new era for technology marketers and we need to stay ahead of the game that is out there. We need to somewhat abandon traditional methods of marketing and look for inventive ways to build brand, awareness and of course leads for the sales folks. Marketing 3.0 is knowing the marketplace, the technologies available: harnessing and executing on all of the above to win the end game. As a marketing professional we should always think and be ahead of the world around us.

Marketing 3.0 - Thinking and executing ahead of everything else.

Authorize my ass

October 19th, 2007 by admin

Inventor-link web site has a weird understanding of freedom of speech. Their Privacy and User Agreement suggests that linking to the web site without their permission is prohibited:

By using this site you agree and understand that the HTML code, look, feel, content, company name, logo, text, and any likeness or derivative of such content is the sole property of Inventor-Link LLC and may not be used in any manner without the expressed written permission of Inventor-Link LLC. Furthermore, we strictly prohibit any links and or other unauthorized references to our web site without our permission.

Inventor-link is represented by the law firm Dozier Internet Law who have similar terms at their web site. The firm goes even further than that. They are trying to forbid viewing the HTML code of their web site:

We also own all of the code, including the HTML code, and all content. As you may know, you can view the HTML code with a standard browser. We do not permit you to view such code since we consider it to be our intellectual property protected by the copyright laws. You are therefore not authorized to do so.

Authorize my ass! No way can this sort of limitations of free speech be enforced.

The whole story can be read at Consumer Law & Policy Blog.
