Ever wondered how you could back-up your ubuntu data easily? And install lots of other things like dvd-codecs, msn messenger clone, dvd copy software? Look no futher, Ubackup! does it all for you.

Auto Install proper DVD & Codecs Files so you can Play a DVD in your drive using totem, etc. (works with 7.10 / 7.04 and 32-bit / 64-bit).
Auto Install Some Common Applications (aMSN, aMSN fix, Flash, Firestarter, Java, AllTray, and a few others)
Back-up Your System /

With uBackup!, you can have your system up and running again exactly how you had it before in about 20 minutes if you had to start from scratch; much less if just making a quick fix. I've completely restored (clean install) my system in 24 minutes with an 11 gig /home folder, which included VMware and Windows XP (10gigs) w/ programs.

The script uses TAR with compression and creates a a back-up file that it places on your Desktop, which you can move when finished.

There's a pretty extensive help file I've written to go along with it and the whole thing is only 41 Kb.

I wrote the script originally to make my back-ups/restore easier and so I wouldn't have to remember all the commands each time. Basically, you can back-up your system with a keystroke. Considering the extent of the TAR command, this is a pretty simple solution for new users. It then grew into a group of handy functions that make setting up Ubuntu a lot easier.

How to get uBackup! :

1. Download the uBackup!.tar.gz file to your (((DESKTOP))) (Left-click on attachment below and save it to your DESKTOP.)

2. Download the Install_uBackup!.sh file to your (((DESKTOP))) (Left-click on attachment below and save it to your DESKTOP.)

3. RIGHT click on the Install_uBackup!.sh file on your DESKTOP and select Properties, then select the Permissions tab at the top, and ensure the 'Execute' check-box is checked towards the bottom where it says 'Allow executing file as program'. Close window.

4. Click or double-click on the Install_uBackup!.sh file located on your Desktop and select 'Run in Terminal'

You will now have a uBackup! icon on your desktop to run the program.

I just uploaded a better version of my installer that will also create a launcher on your Desktop to run uBackup!. If the Launcher opens a text file instead of launching uBackup!, you will probably need to go into your uBackup! folder (Example: /home/Chris/uBackup!) and RIGHT click on the uBackup! file and select Properties, then select the Permissions tab at the top, and ensure the 'Execute' check-box is checked towards the bottom where it says 'Allow executing file as program'. Close window.
